The Vouch Nuevo is a 7'6 stock single fin with side bites, bought straight off the rack rather than ordered custom. It has turned into one of the best mid-lengths in the rack, custom or otherwise.
What it is and why I bought it
I bought the Nuevo stock in July 2022 from a surfboard shop, hand-shaped by a veteran Byron Bay shaper, the seventh board from this maker to come through the rack. It is 21 3/4 inches wide and 2 7/8 thick, with a relaxed rocker, a rolled entry, soft-to-hard rails and a bottom rolled into a double concave vee, running a single fin with side bites rather than the twin and quad setups that fill most of the current quiver. It was in stock and delivered within days, none of the wait a custom order usually carries.
How it surfed
Its best wave came at Granite, at a top speed of 38.9 km/h (about 24.2 mph) over a 375 metre ride, using its own Vouch 9 inch flex fin. That places it among the fastest boards logged in the entire rack, all from a stock, off-the-rack purchase rather than a custom build. It goes well in chop thanks to the relaxed rocker and rolled entry, is genuinely forgiving of rider size and ability, and the V-shaped double concave through the back half gives it more agility than a single fin setup usually offers. The dimensions, colour and fin package that came with it turned out to be exactly right, better than a custom order might have landed by guesswork.
Who it suits and who it does not
A forgiving, single-fin-with-side-bites mid-length like this suits almost any size or ability of rider looking for one board that handles a wide range of conditions smoothly. It is a strong stock alternative for anyone assuming a board this capable has to be custom ordered; this one proves otherwise. The logged wave range is 1 to 8 ft, ideal at 5 ft.
What happened to it
It is still in the rack. It cost $1,975, fins included, and carries an asking price of $1,350, with nothing suggesting it will move on any time soon.
