The Campbell Designed Twin Cam is a 6'4 EPS fish, ordered as a remake of an earlier board and delivered as something else entirely. It is a small case study in what can go wrong with a custom order, and in how a board can still turn out fine anyway.
What it is and why I bought it
I ordered the Twin Cam from Campbell Designed in August 2025 as a remake of a board I had owned before, in a new set of dimensions, expecting a specific colour and a channel bottom to match the original. What arrived was a swallow-tailed, EPS Exoflex fish with a curved rocker and a rolled-into-double-concave bottom instead, in a different colour to what was ordered and with no channels or concave carried over from the original design.
How it surfed
Whatever the mix-up on the order, the Twin Cam has surfed as a capable high-performance fish, described in the log as an Exoflex high-performance fish suited to everyday conditions. Its best wave came at Sunrise, at a top speed of 23 km/h (about 14.3 mph) over 65 metres. A Hooker fin has been the setup used on it. There is more to learn about where it sits in the rack, but nothing so far suggests the changed spec has hurt it.
Who it suits and who it does not
A modern, five-slot capable fish shape like this suits someone who wants a lively, high-performance board in everyday, small to medium surf. It is not a board built for anyone hoping for the specific channel-bottom design that was originally ordered, since that design never actually arrived. The wave range logged is 1 to 5 ft, ideal at 3 ft, so it is squarely an everyday board rather than anything for size.
What happened to it
It is still in the rack. It cost $1,080 to build, with a replacement cost of $1,350 logged, and no asking price recorded, so there is no indication it is heading anywhere soon.
