The Keyo Cheetah is a 9'0 stock single fin, bought with one brief: ride anything. It has more than backed that up, including the longest ride of any single fin currently in the rack.
What it is and why I bought it
I bought the Cheetah stock in October 2020, a PU longboard with a flat-to-medium rocker, pinched rails and a flat-to-double-concave-vee-to-vee bottom. At 22 1/4 inches wide and 64 litres over 9'0, it is built as a genuine do-it-all single fin rather than a specialist noserider or a performance log.
How it surfed
The Cheetah has lived up to its brief. Its best wave came at Granite, covering an exceptional 430 metres, the longest ride logged on any current single fin, at a top speed of 26.8 km/h (about 16.7 mph). A 9 inch FCS2 Connect fin has been the setup used. The wave range on it runs 1 to 8 ft, ideal at 3 ft, wide enough to cover everything from a soft, small day through to a proper point wave.
Who it suits and who it does not
A wide, high-volume single fin log like this suits someone who wants one board to paddle into almost anything, from the smallest days through to good size, without needing to think too hard about conditions. It is not the board for someone chasing tight, rail-to-rail turning; a shorter twin fin in the rack, like the Surman Dark Void, does that job instead.
What happened to it
It is still in the rack. It cost $1,650 and carries an asking price of $1,100, but with a 430 metre best ride on the books, it remains one of the most-used boards in the current quiver.
