Keogh Salsa 6'6 review: a twin fin that liked push

The Keogh Salsa is a 6'6 custom twin fin, one of the most heavily used boards in the sold register, and a clear preference for waves with some push behind them.

What it is and why I bought it

I ordered the Salsa from Keogh in November 2018, a PU board with a flat rocker and soft-to-hard rails, running an early single concave into a double vee with four channels, finished with a rounded pin tail. At 20 3/8 inches wide and 38 litres over 6'6, the register notes it works from 2 ft to 5 ft and specifically likes push.

It came in a white with ivory colourway.

How it surfed

Its best wave came at Ninjas, at a top speed of 30.5 km/h (about 19 mph) over a 122 metre ride, using an Album Asher Pacey or BMT fin. It confirmed itself as a genuine favourite in its window, holding speed and drive whenever the wave offered a bit of power rather than a soft, weak face. The logged wave range is 2 to 5 ft, ideal at 4 ft.

Who it suits and who it does not

A channel-bottom twin fin like this suits someone who wants a fast, driving board for waves with real push, from 2 ft up to 5 ft. It is a weaker choice for the softest, most marginal days, since its whole character depends on some power coming through the wave.

What happened to it

It sold on 7 May 2023 for $900, matching its logged asking price, against a $1,300 build cost. A replacement cost of $1,700 is also logged against it, for comparison against what it originally cost.
