The Firewire Mashup is a 6'6 stock five-fin board, built with Firewire's Helium construction, that turned in a solid but unremarkable run through the rack.
What it is and why I bought it
I bought the Mashup stock in August 2022, a Helium-construction board with a low rocker and a bottom running single into double, finished with a swallow tail, built with five fin slots for setup flexibility. At 21 1/8 inches wide and 47.4 litres over 6'6, it was logged simply as paddling okay, a fair rather than standout result.
It came in a white colourway.
How it surfed
Its best wave came at Granites, at a top speed of 23.1 km/h (about 14.4 mph) over a 125 metre ride, using an NPJ 2+1 fin setup. It moved on after a short run, with no specific complaint against it beyond an unremarkable paddling feel. The logged wave range is 2 to 4 ft, ideal at 2 ft.
Who it suits and who it does not
A five-slot Helium-construction board like this suits someone wanting flexibility in fin setup for small-to-medium surf without needing standout paddle power. It is a weaker fit for anyone specifically prioritising an easy, effortless paddle, since that was the one area the register notes as merely okay rather than a strength.
What happened to it
It sold in July 2023 for $700, against an $826 purchase cost. A replacement cost of $1,220 is also logged against it, for comparison against what it originally cost.
