The DHD Sweet Spot 2 is a 6'6 five-slot step-up, a good everyday all-rounder that also became a testbed for a twin keel fin setup filmed and compared directly.

What it is and why I bought it

I bought the Sweet Spot 2 stock in July 2017, a PU board with a curved rocker, hard rails and a single-to-deep-double bottom, finished with a rounded pin tail, built with five fin slots for setup flexibility. At 20 1/8 inches wide and 36.5 litres over 6'6, the register describes it as a step-up and a good all-rounder, while noting a preference for the Hydronaut model from the same brand.

How it surfed

Its best wave came at Chickens, at a top speed of 21 km/h (about 13 mph) over a 100 metre ride, most often run with AM2 FCS2 fins in a thruster setup. It proved a capable step-up all-rounder, and its five-slot fin boxes were also used to test a set of FCS2 twin keels directly in the board, a comparison filmed for its own video. The logged wave range is 3 to 8 ft, ideal at 5 ft.

Who it suits and who it does not

A five-slot step-up like this suits someone who wants one board that handles a wide range of medium-to-larger conditions and is curious to try different fin configurations in the same setup. It is not the pick for the smallest, softest days, given its 3 ft floor and step-up intent.

What happened to it

It sold in May 2019 for $350, matching its logged asking price, against an $840 purchase cost.
