The Campbell Designed Binary is a 6'6 custom twin fin, an Exoflex stringerless build with a diamond tail and a subtle acceleration channel. It handled everything from ordinary conditions to cyclone swell without breaking.
What it is and why I bought it
I ordered the Binary from Campbell Designed in November 2022, an EPS board with a low rocker, running a rolled bottom into a mild single concave under the front foot, into a single channel vee at the tail, finished with a diamond tail rather than a swallow. Being stringerless and built with Exoflex construction, it carries a carbon strip on the top and bottom for strength, and the register describes it as high performance across any wave range.
How it surfed
Its best wave came at Granite, at a top speed of 23.9 km/h (about 14.9 mph) over a 184 metre ride, using Soar G10 fins. It proved a fast, light board with more rocker than most in its class, which meant it paddled around well despite the performance-oriented shaping. It proved durable enough to take into genuinely hollow, cyclone-generated swell without any issues, and it doubled as a reliable travel board thanks to the strength of the Exoflex build.
Who it suits and who it does not
A stringerless, diamond-tailed performance twin like this suits someone moving up from a thruster who wants the extra speed and different feel a twin fin brings, in a board strong enough to travel with. It is not the board for someone chasing a soft, forgiving, everyday cruiser; the diamond tail and subtle channel are built for pivot and speed rather than a relaxed ride.

It sold on 4 November 2025 for $550, against a $1,200 build cost.
