The Morning of the Earth Massive Triple Stringer is a 7'6 custom mid-length twin fin, a channel-bottom board finished in a colour ordered specifically for this build. It handles a genuinely wide range of conditions, from groveling at the beach through to solid swell at the points.

What it is and why I bought it

I ordered the Massive in September 2020, a PU board with a triple-stringer build, soft rails and a full-length vee running into a single-into-double-vee channel bottom, finished in a custom blue and purple colourway. The log notes it screams in 5 to 6 ft, which was the kind of condition it was built to handle without giving up everyday usability.

How it surfed

Regular use backs up the brief. Its best wave came at Granite, at a top speed of 31.2 km/h (about 19.4 mph) over a 278 metre ride, using Futures Keels in the mote style. It carries a fairly wide, thick, forgiving nose, so it paddles and catches waves easily despite its performance-minded channel bottom, and it holds up across a genuinely wide range, from small beach-break surf right through to a bigger day at the points. It took a long time to be built, in keeping with the custom colour work and channel-bottom shaping.

Who it suits and who it does not

A wide-ranging, channel-bottom mid-length twin like this suits someone who wants one board that covers both small groveling days and bigger, more powerful swell without a change of board. It is a poor match for someone who only wants a small-wave specialist or only a big-wave board; the whole point of the Massive is that it does not need to choose. The logged wave range is 1 to 6 ft, ideal at 2 ft, even though it is noted to particularly stand out once size picks up to 5 to 6 ft.

What happened to it

It is still in the rack. It cost $1,700 to build and carries an asking price of $1,200, and it remains one of the more used boards in the current quiver.
