The Christenson Flat Tracker is a 6'10 single fin mid-length, built for medium-sized waves rather than small groveling days, and did exactly that.

What it is and why I bought it

I bought the Flat Tracker stock in October 2015, a PU board with a flat rocker, pinched rails and a rolled-to-double-concave bottom, finished with a square tail. At 21 inches wide and 42 litres over 6'10, it is built with a single fin rather than the twin and quad setups common elsewhere in the register.

It came in a white colourway.

How it surfed

Its best wave came at Freshy, at a top speed of 16.9 km/h (about 10.5 mph) over a 104 metre ride, using a Blue Soar fin. The register is direct about where it excels: good in medium-sized waves, not a groveller, meaning it wanted some size and push rather than the smallest, softest days. The logged wave range is 2 to 5 ft, ideal at 3 ft.

A flat-rockered single fin mid-length like this suits someone who wants a smooth, medium-wave board with genuine glide, rather than a small-wave specialist. It is not the pick for soft, weak surf; the register's own note rules that out directly.

What happened to it

It sold on 1 May 2019 for $650, matching its logged asking price, against a $1,500 purchase cost.
